Niall Currie could be forced to ‘rejig things’ when Portadown host Glentoran in the Irish Cup sixth round.

Ports boss Currie watched on in horror as his side lost 6-0 to Linfield last weekend in a performance he labelled ‘embarrassing’.

He has since dipped into the transfer market, bringing in goalkeeper Ondrej Mastny on loan from Manchester United while also adding Warrenpoint Town striker Alan O’Sullivan and Aaron Harkin to his squad before the window shut this week.

Currie is undoubtedly looking for a big reaction from his men against a Glens side that are unbeaten in three games under Rodney McAree - and says they can’t keep making the ‘same mistakes’.

"I'm going to have to look really hard,” he said after the Linfield loss. “We have Glentoran and that'll be the same kind of scenario.

"If we make the same mistakes there, it's going to be the same outcome.

"We have to galvanise things again. We will have a look at individuals during the week but we have to make changes.

"The same mistakes are happening from the same players so I'm going to have to rejig things."

Currie was appointed to the Shamrock Park hot seat for a second time in October and was under no illusions about the task at hand when he took over.

Their last win was a 2-0 Irish Cup triumph over Banbridge Town last month – a moment of joy amidst the tough times they’ve suffered in the league – and Currie is determined to succeed.

"Whenever I came to the club, it was a dire situation there's no doubt and then we had a run that would scare the life out of you,” he added. "You don't get many chances to rectify things.

"I thought I was hard done by the first time but I have a second bite of it and I said when I came that there would be pain before there are smiles and that's probably going to be the case.

"By the time I leave this club, it will be an established Premiership club again, I have no doubt in my mind.

"We will do things properly and get a changing room that cares. That has to be the target now."
