Police are appealing for information concerning the attempted hijacking of a car waiting at traffic lights in the early hours of this morning.

The incident was reported to the PSNI shortly before 2.10am when a man approached a silver Toyata Yaris waiting at traffic lights on Donegall Street area of north Belfast.

The man then exited the car and reached for the driver’s door but the driver was able to drive away.

A 35-year-old man was later arrested in the area on suspicion of attempted hijacking and interference with vehicles and he remains in custody, assisting with enquiries.

Detective Sergeant Wilson said: "This was a distressing incident for the driver, and I would appeal for anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything, or who may have dash cam footage to contact us on 101 quoting reference 115 of 23/04/21."
