Firework approvals should be listed online

The annual season of terror for dogs and other pets is now well under way as fireworks are let off without any concern for the welfare of domestic and farm animals.

Pet owners and farmers are reluctant to check out any displays for reporting to police as they have no means of knowing whether they have been licensed by the Department of Justice (DoJ). The consequence is that the illegal use of fireworks goes largely unreported - with no relief for the animal casualties.

Surely it would be easy for DoJ to post online the addresses and dates for which firework licences have be issued. This would make it easy for the general public to check the legality of any displays and would encourage the reporting of any which are taking place outside the law.
