Local Lisburn businessman Mel Campbell of Play Services Ireland has utilised the unusual climate and an increasing reliance on digital technology to develop a new app to enhance and align the user experience of new and existing customers.

The company was established in 2009 to help individuals manage risk and create safer places to play through the inspection of playgrounds and multi-use games areas.

Speaking about the new app, Alderman Jim Dillon MBE, Development Committee Chairman of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council said: “Despite the current circumstances, Mel Campbell has shown resilience, innovation and adaptability. He has created a unique mobile app that offers a digital solution to playground inspectors.

“The Small World Inspections app offers many benefits to its users. Using this app not only increases efficiency, reduces paperwork but records and stores data in real-time. The ability for inspectors to complete their supervisions and record their findings accurately at their fingertips is just fantastic.

“The creation of this app is very inspiring and encouraging to the local business sector during these uncertain times. We are very proud to see the business going from strength to strength in the council area and wish them every success.”

Highlighting his ability to diversify due to the on-going Covid-19 crisis, Mel Campbell, Managing Director of Play Services Ireland, continued: “When the pandemic hit, we had no choice but to think outside the box and adjust our business offering to the ever-changing world.

“We were able to re-direct our thinking and plan for the future.

“The app has been developed carefully and considers all the relevant inspection criteria. From the user-friendly interface, individuals can select various report types which allows them to carry out a range of playground inspections.

“Also, the app includes a unique mapping system to find all play areas easily, and inspectors can save photographs to record equipment updates and document any issues.

“The finished inspection report can be accessed almost immediately by management personnel in any location.”

The app is available to download on iOS and Android systems.
